How to build a simple electric generator for school? And is it a good subject for my school science

What I'm trying to do is demonstrate that a turnstile connected to a generator in a busy store or building entrance (think Macy's front door) would produce clean, renewable energy. What do you think about my idea?
Been done. like 60 years ago. turned out to be a failure, either it required too much force to work or it worked too easy, the door would revolve by itself after being pushed, injuring some people too slow to move out of the way.

you can monitor the power produced by charging a battery and measuring how long it took. for example, a 48W-Hr batter took 4 hours, that means your thing makes 12 Watts of power per hour.
or you can get a ammeter and measure the average & peak output of the system, it only requires a short test.

This report is from almost two years ago. If you'd continue reading the entire DATED report, you'll note that while the firms were foreign, the grants were for US companies with US facilities on US soil using US workers.
